Should I add my TFN to the bank?
Why do I need to give my bank my TFN when I open an account? Withholding your TFN or your exemption certificate means that your bank or ADI will have to deduct Withholding Tax at the highest rate. It’ll also apply the Medicare Levy on any accounts that haven’t supplied a TFN or the exemption.
Can I change my TFN number?
Using ATO online services is the quickest way to update your details. To access ATO online services you will need to link your myGov account to the ATO. You can also update your details using the ATO app, which will take you to ATO online services (if you have a myGov account and have linked to the ATO).

Can I claim back TFN withholding tax?
You can only claim a refund directly from us if you can claim an exemption from quoting a TFN or ABN from your investment body, but have not done so. If you cannot select one of the boxes below, you cannot receive a direct refund and you must lodge a tax return to claim a credit for the TFN amounts deducted.
